West Coast Biological Services is a trusted environmental consulting firm built on more than 20 years of combined field experience. We specialize in providing expert biological monitoring, nesting bird surveys, and protocol-level surveys for special-status species across California. Our mission is to provide industry-leading scientific analysis that ensures project success, regulatory compliance, and a high standard of environmental stewardship.
Our Team
Bryan Nelson is a biologist with over 20 years' experience in fisheries and terrestrial biology, biological research, and aquatic ecology. He is a skilled writer preparing several documentation reports, and is proficient at scientific data handling, supervising and training teams, and building relationships with contractors and other agencies.
Mr. Nelson’s expertise includes Pacific salmon spawning ground surveys and population studies and herpetological and nesting bird surveys/monitoring. Mr. Nelson has handled thousands of endangered species act listed Pacific salmon with great care and attentiveness. Mr. Nelson’s Master’s thesis looked at correlations between increasing water temperatures from changing climate and their effects on the survival of adult sockeye salmon, (Oncorhynchus nerka) on Snake River in the Columbia River Basin.
Principle Biologist
Mr. Nelson is authorized by CDFW and USFWS to conduct surveys and monitor for western burrowing owl, Swainson’s hawk, bald and golden eagle, and other raptor species.
Mr. Nelson has also been approved to conduct surveys and monitor for giant garter snake, California red-legged frog, Foothills yellow-legged frog, and has monitored and surveyed for California tiger salamander, western pond turtle, and other reptile and amphibian species.
